What do I need to bring to class?

Required equipment includes a towel and water bottle. Recommended but not compulsory equipment includes a mouthguard, wrestling boots, spare shirt or singlet.

What do i wear FOR trainING?

You can train in sports shorts, track pants, long or short tights / skins and t shirt, rash shirt or singlet or compression shirt. Avoid wearing anything with zippers or buttons and preferably nothing with external pockets. You can also train in a wrestling singlet. For footwear you must either wear wrestling boots or be barefoot, no street shoes or footwear other than wrestling boots are permitted on the mats. If training barefoot ensure your feet are clean.

Do I need to have wrestling experience before joining?

No. you don’t need to have previous wrestling experience to join classes at Brisbane Wrestling Club. We welcome all experience levels.

Can I only join if I’m training for a wrestling competition?

No. you don’t need to be training for a wrestling competition to join Brisbane Wrestling Club. People train with us for a variety of reasons including improving performance in other martial arts, general fitness, to learn a new skill and also to complete in wrestling specifically. We welcome everyone..

Do I have to sign up to the Brisbane wrestling Club annual membership if I just want to join for a short period or trial a Class?

Yes, everyone must be a member of Brisbane Wrestling Club before stepping on the mat for any number of classes (even for a trial).

Do you offer a free trial class?

Brisbane Wrestling Club waives the training fees for everyone’s first week however the annual membership fees for Brisbane Wrestling Club are still payable before stepping on the mat

If you’d like to see a class first to determine if it’s right for you, you’re welcome to attend and watch.

Is there anything I should do before class?

  • Check your finger nails to ensure they are not long and please cut if necessary. Do the same for toe nails if you’ll be wrestling barefoot.

  • Drink plenty of water and eat a nutritious meal within 2 hours of class to ensure you arrive at class well hydrated and with optimal energy.

  • Prioritise hygiene and consider others by being clean, wearing clean clothes and using deodorant.

  • Ensure all cuts and rashes are covered. You will not be able to wrestle will exposed cuts or rashes.

When do I need to sign up to Wrestling QLD / Wrestling Australia?

All participants are required to be a member of Wrestling Australia & Wrestling Queensland (or another state body) before competing in competition. A state level membership is required for participation in state level competitions such as the Queensland State Championships and a national level membership is required for participation in national level competitions such as the Australian National Championships.
